Rush board OKs Turkey Hill liquor license transfer

Patrons may eventually be able to enjoy a few ales when they stop at a gas station in Rush Township.

That's after the township's board of supervisors unanimously agreed on Thursday to adopt a resolution to approve the transfer of a restaurant liquor license to Turkey Hill L.P.The board's decision came after it heard from attorney Paul A. Namey, of Flaherty & O'Hara, who requested the transfer to the Turkey Hill Minit Market at 205 Claremont Ave. in Hometown.O'Hara told the board the liquor license would be transferred from an old Pottsville restaurant to the Turkey Hill Minit Market. The initial plan would be to sell beer, specifically craft beer, in four-packs, six-packs and 12-packs, and beer sales would be mainly for take out, he said. However, O'Hara said in-store consumption for patrons would be limited to a maximum of two beers with the purchase of food.No other alcohol consumption would be allowed, said O'Hara, who added there would be seating for up to 30 patrons. He said they may offer wine for takeout eventually, however, there would be no liquor or wine for on-premises consumption.Supervisor Robert Leibensperger told O'Hara that parking is one of the big issues that would need to be addressed.Turkey Hill does not have enough parking spaces under the new zoning ordinance, but O'Hara said they would work with the township to address that concern. The board noted that their approval was merely for the transfer of the restaurant liquor license.O'Hara said the next step is the application to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to approve the license transfer. The matter will eventually go before the township's zoning hearing board.
