Jim Thorpe 1965-66 basketball team honored

The 1965-66 Jim Thorpe High School boys basketball team was honored before a recent varsity basketball game.

The team won the Eastern Championship and went on to compete for the PIAA Class C championship.Four times during the season the Olympians scored over 100 points, including 122 against St. Ann’s.The Olympians, coached by Phil Rader, were dubbed “Rader’s Runts” because no one on the team was more than six-feet fall.Team members attending the program were, from left, Randy Smith, assistant coach John Suran, Betty Ann Rader, representing her deceased husband, Phil Rader; Keith Miller, Bob Brown, Joe Lazorick, Jim Dugan, Clem McGinley and Denny Balliet.Other team members were Joey Morgan, Mike Tessitore, Ken Detweiler, Rich Armbruster and Bruce Shanfelt. Also not present, due to illness, was assistant coach Randy Rabenold.
