Schuylkill Township restricts coal trucks

Schuylkill Township police Chief Frank DiMarco is working with the company to limit coal trucks in the township.

Responding to prior public comments and concerns from Mary Van Pelt regarding Tuscarora Coal Company trucks coming through Valley Street in Brockton before 6 a.m., DiMarco said the company has agreed to limit traffic before 6 a.m., and they will be doing everything possible so that the truckers stick to the ban.He said putting signs up would hinder other type of trucks to do deliveries, but that the police and the coal company will do all they can to spread the word so that the coal truckers know not to come through before it is allowed and disturb residents. With the high turnover in drivers and out of town truck owners, it becomes more difficult to have the restriction enforced because new people don't know about it. DiMarco will continue to get the word out.DiMarco reported a decline on speeding after the new 25 mph speed limit and "Reduce Speed Ahead" signs have been in place through New Kirk. The road master report revealed plans and quotes from paving companies to repair a few streets that are in need of repair, trying to keep it under $62,000.A motion passed to approve an agreement from the Tuscarora Fire Company to meet the requirements to continue to provide firefighting, emergency, and other services to Schuylkill Township, and to secure a loan to finance equipment to that effect with no financial obligation to the municipality. The township agreed to secure an aggregate principal amount not to exceed $69,363.63 for financing a one brush truck, Ford F350 with utility body to be located at the fire house of the Tuscarora Fire Company.Norm Lettich was appointed as the new auditor/accountant for Schuylkill Township. David Shelcusky was removed from the position.
