Panthers top SV

SHENANDOAH - The Kennedy twins drove Shenandoah Valley’s football team daffy all evening long at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Noah Allegretta was nearly equal to the task against Panther Valley. By the time homecoming came to an end nearly three hours into this Schuylkill Football League Division 2 game, it was Panther Valley managing to come up for air and a 34-30 victory. The two-headed monster, and identical twins, needed every bit of energy to allow their team to rally late in the game to overcome a 30-28 deficit and then hold off the Blue Devils, forcing a fumble at their own 17 with 6:32 to play. The game-breaker came early in the fourth quarter. The Panthers were looking at a fourth-down and four yards to go at the Shenandoah Valley 44. Matt Davis, PV’s head coach, decided to turn river boat gambler. Davis went play-action call, Hunter Kennedy executed a fake to perfection, then came up throwing and hit Tristen Blasko with a 44-yard pitch-and-catch touchdown.“(Allegretta) is such an aggressive safety, explained Davis of the huge gamble that turned into the game winning points. “He kept coming up to stop the run and we decided to take the chance,” .While the pass was the focal point at the end, Davis and the Panthers were down to a fourth-string running back. Up stepped Tanner Kennedy and he ripped off 97 rushing yards on 17 carries.“He is a beast and he really stepped up for us,” said Davis. “We really responded tonight. Our offensive line did a great job I couldn’t be more proud of our effort.”As much as Tanner was running a power sweep, Hunter shined with his arm. The junior quarterback was nearly flawless, going 12-16 for 266 yards and three touchdown strikes, while scoring once himself on a nine-yard run. Kennedy’s first touchdown score was to Danny Gilberry, which came after Xander Kern scored on a three-yard run that gave the Panthers a 13-0 lead.Shenandoah Valley found the end zone with 10:12 to go in the second quarter, when Alex Donchak scored on a 22-yard pass from Allegretta,Minutes later, the Devils recorded a safety when a botched punt resulted in a safety to make it 13-8. Allegretta was the big reason the Blue Devils managed to hang around. The senior accounted for 172 yards rushing, he threw for 176 yards; scored one touchdown on a 65-yard run, added another touchdown on a one-yard run.The momentum clearly swung in favor of the Blue Devils when John Chinchay caught a 45-yard touchdown pass from Allegretta, who then added another deuce on the PAT try. Hunter Kennedy would march his team back downfield, scoring on a nine-yard run. Allegretta brought his team back for a final time, racing 65 yards to paydirt on the ensuing play from scrimmage. Not to be outdone, the Panthers came up clawing, when Hunter Kennedy hit Blasko for what turned out to be the game winning six.NOTABLE ...
