Police have released details regarding Thursday afternoon's collision along Route 54 in Barnesville.

According to Sergeant Duane Frederick, Rush Township police, responders were dispatched to Pine Creek Drive and Church Road about 3 p.m. for a report of a car crash with injuries.

Police said Dennis Laul, 66, of Hometown was traveling east on Pine Creek Dr when his Chrysler PT Cruiser crossed over the double yellow and traveled off the road hitting a tree head on. Laul was airlifted to a local trauma center.

He told police he blacked out.

A passenger, Valerie Laul, 66, of Hometown, also was injured and transported to St Luke's Hospital - Miners Campus, Coaldale, via ambulance.

Neither was wearing a seatbelt, police said.

Responding in addition to police were Ryan Township and Tamaqua ambulances, Hometown Fire Police, Ryan Township Fire and Rescue and Luzerne Medic APTS.
