Mahoning supers reorganize

The Mahoning Township Supervisors Board has a new face. Brian Reeser joined the board Monday night replacing former supervisor Kerry Verrastro during the yearly reorganization of the township. Verrastro has volunteered to serve as a chairman on the vacancy board for one year.

John Wieczorek will retain his position as chairman, Franklin Ruch as vice chairman and Natalie Haggerty as township secretary/treasurer. Haggerty received an increase of 63 cents an hour for her position for 2016 while also volunteering for the position of secretary of the planning commission until someone permanent is found. Wieczorek was also appointed to the position of chief administrative officer. The board approved retaining two part-time officers, Gabriel Szozda and Joel Bulla, at the rate of $16.50 an hour. The board had decided to cut part-time officers from the force during the 2016 budget meeting."Even though we don't have appointed funds, we would maintain their positions in case we need them," Wieczorek said."We don't have to use them, but in case Audie (Mertz) needs to call them, he can in an emergency," said supervisor Shawn Haggerty.Supervisor Bruce Steigerwalt opposed the motion, while the rest voted for the part-time backup.
