Borough examines sewer costs

Lehighton borough will begin to investigate sewer costs.

According to Lisa Perry, council member and member of the sewer committee, the Lehighton Sewer Authority wants to look into homes that may be "infiltrating our system and driving up costs. They want someone to do a smoke test," she said."The problem is we can't just ring doorbells and go into their homes," board Vice President Scott Rehrig said.Perry told the board Lansford has an ordinance in place to avoid this problem."I'll obtain a copy of that ordinance," borough manager Nicole Beckett said."The system is from the 1950s. I'm sure there's a lot of broken pipes," Council President Grant Hunsicker said."We've even found pipes and drains where we don't know where they go," Rehrig said. The board agreed to further develop a plan for the issue during upcoming meetings.
