Schuylkill Master Gardeners hold events

Schuylkill County's Master Gardeners program has several events scheduled over the next few weeks.

The Field to Fork event, celebrating pollinators, will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, at Hope Hill Lavender Farms, 2375 Panther Valley Road, Pottsville.Participants will learn about growing vegetables almost anywhere and the steps needed to get produce and other foods from the fields to the dinner table. Bring your questions and the experts will provide answers. There will also be samples of fresh, locally grown produce. This free event will be held rain or shine. On Aug. 30, county residents will have the opportunity to learn everything they need to know about lawns and how to care for them in an eco-friendly manner. There are many different types of lawns in addition to the green carpet of grass so many homeowners work to achieve. There are also edible lawns, pet friendly lawns and meadow lawns to name just a few. All of these will be included in the "Many Shades of Lawn" presentation. The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 30 at the AG center, 1202 AG center Drive, Pottsville. There is a registration fee for this presentation. The Master Gardeners are also looking for pollinator friendly gardens and are giving away a pollinator basket to five lucky gardeners.Anyone wishing to have their garden be certified as pollinator friendly, and be eligible to win a basket, should complete a certification form, which may be found online at
