Tamaqua man facing several charges

Tamaqua police have filed charges against Samuel O. Koch, 56, of 82 Hunter St., Tamaqua, after he was found in a disoriented condition on April 14.

Concerned citizens contacted the Schuylkill County Communications Center after 11 a.m. to report an intoxicated man in the area of the Elks Building, Nescopec and Rowe streets. Officers arrived at 11:15 a.m. and found Koch on Rowe Street, weaving unsteadily on his feet.Koch was handcuffed and searched. In his pockets police found two prescription bottles, two syringes, a box of hand-rolled cigarettes, a pocket knife, and five packets containing a white powder, which field tested positive for heroin. The pill bottles contained alprazolam, lisinopril and cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride.Koch couldn't remember what he had taken, so due to his condition, he was transported to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale for treatment.He was later charged with public drunkenness, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.
