Tamaqua inductees are Frantz, Schlosser, Sakusky

The Carbon County Hall of Fame banquet will be held Sunday, May 29 at Memorial Hall in Jim Thorpe. The doors will open at 1 p.m.

This year's inductees are:Palmerton - John Kleintop, Ted Plessl and Mike Dekan.Lehighton - Jim Remaley, Monroe Berger and Rick Stroup.Nesquehoning - Gary Barna, Nicole Hackenberg and Erick Hacenberg.Lansford - Joseph Jason, Donnie Fredericks and Ed Shubeck.Jim Thorpe - Terry McElmoyle, Tricia McElmoyle and Farley Foster.Summit Hill - Trevor Lawrence Jr., Tom Bonner and Dave Evans.Coadale - Allysa Vavra, Joseph Holubek and Joe Terry.Tamaqua - Bob Schlosser, Aaron Frantz and Bill Sakusky.Banquet tickets can be purchased from the following Hall of Fame committee members: Danny McGinley 570-325-3550, Emmett McCall 570-645-2093, Art George (610-826-2830), Jake Boyer (610-751-6634), Trevor Lawrence (570-645-4722), Bill Gardiner (570-669-6564), Tom Bonner (570-386-2516), Herb Welsh (570-386-3187) and Bob Gelatko (570-645-8652). Tickets are $35 for adults. For children under 12 the cost is $15. The deadline for tickets is May 8.Following are members of the 2016 Tamaqua Hall of Fame class.BILL SAKUSKYBill is a Tamaqua native and a 1967 graduate of Marian Catholic High School. He was a three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and baseball.In football, Bill was a two-way lineman and did the placekicking. Bill lettered three years in basketball under legendary coach Hugh "Wink" Gallagher and averaged 12 points per game. He played baseball and lettered all four years, moving between pitcher and first base. He won the Schuylkill-Carbon County batting title in 1966, and had the best pitching record in the county in 1967.Bill attended Mansfield University after high school graduation. He played both football and baseball while in college.Sakusky graduated in 1971 and began both teaching and coaching at St. Joseph's in Summit Hill. Locally, Bill played softball for the Polish Club in Summit Hill and was president of the softball association for several years. He was hired at Hamburg High School in 1973 where he spent his remaining years teaching and coaching until his retirement in 2007. Bill was a highly respected teacher and coach in Berks county, twice selected as Football Coach of the Year (1985, 1988). His coaching career included more than 34 years of working with kids in football, basketball, and baseball. In 2007, Bill was elected to the Berks County Football Coaches Hall of Fame, in 2010 to the Hamburg Sports Hall of Fame, and in 2014 to the Marian High School Sports Hall of Fame.Bill and his wife, Pam, have been married for 34 years. They have two children, Steve and Amy, and two grandchildren, Griffin and Sullivan.AARON R. FRANTZAaron is a 1984 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School. He excelled as a tri-sport athlete during high school. Aaron competed in basketball, track and field, and football. Frantz was an all-county lineman during his senior season.After high school, Aaron continued to play football and earned many accolades during his time at Lehigh University. He earned the Alexander Hahalis Award for being an outstanding Lehigh lineman, was voted the best offensive lineman at the university during his senior season, earned a spot on the East Coast Athletic Conference 2nd Team, and was Lehigh's captain during the same year.As well as earning a Bachelor of Science from Lehigh, he went on to get his Master of Science degree at Drexel University.Frantz is currently the Vice President at CDM Smith, Inc. He is the Environmental Services Area Manager for the mid-Atlantic and northeastern U.S. Aaron is a registered professional engineer, geologist, and Board Certified Environmental Engineer.Aaron is married to his wife, Megan. He has one son, Adam, who attends Penn State University; and a daughter, Chelsea, who is a senior at Tamaqua Area High School.BOB SCHLOSSERBob is a 1972 graduate of Marian Catholic High School. Schlosser excelled on the basketball court as a Colt, and was a member of the 1971 State Championship team.After high school, he continued his education and basketball career at East Stroudsburg University and broke the assist record during his time as a Warrior.Schlosser is currently enjoying a successful basketball coaching career. Bob was the head coach of the Marian boys' basketball team for two years and posted a record of 50-15. He then moved on to Allentown Central Catholic where he won two Class AAA state titles in 1984 and 1986.Bob then moved up to coach at the collegiate level. He's been the men's head coach at Elizabethtown for 26 seasons. He is the program's all-time leader in wins with 356, and led the program to a national runner-up appearance in 2002. Under his watch, Elizabethtown has three Commonwealth Conference championships and has appeared in three NCAA tournaments. Bob was inducted into the Lehigh Valley High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010. Schlosser was named the MAC Commonwealth League Coach of the Year in 1998-99.He is happily married to his wife, Sue. Together, they have three sons; Bob, Sam, and Will, whom are all college coaches.
