East Penn discusses snow, budget

The night before the election the East Penn Township Supervisors gathered for its monthly meeting. On the agenda was a reminder that voting will take place for both north and south district at the Social Hall, 403 Blue Mountain Road.

More than halfway through the fall season the board also reminded residents about the $1,000 fine for pushing, shoveling or plowing snow into public roadways.The township held a budget meeting Oct. 29. The minutes from that meeting were approved by the board. Chairman Dean R. Kercsmar was absent from both the budget and Monday night's meeting.The agenda for the budget included East Penn Township Police Department's submission of items for consideration regarding the 2016 fiscal year. Chief James Danner requested two bulletproof vests, cellphones and funds for a new cruiser.The board considered selling the aging 1998 Ford Crown Victoria, but it's the 2005 Ford Explorer with transmission issues that needs to be replaced. Originally $10,000 had been set aside for purchase of the new vehicle. However, the amount was reduced by half with the possibility of a grant to help offset the difference.Road work was also a topic up for discussion during the budget meeting. The board agreed to tentatively set aside $135,000 for projects in 2016.Brandon Bradford was named second in command of the road crew, taking over in the absence of the roadmaster or at the roadmaster's discretion. The board also voted to advertise that the township accept application for the road crew with a class A, B or CDL license during the October budgeting.
