Two women cited following traffic stop

Two women were cited following a traffic stop in McAdoo on April 18.

An officer was monitoring traffic in the 200 block of South Kennedy Drive when he noticed a white Chrysler sedan with windows so heavily tinted he was unable to see inside. As he initiated a traffic stop the Chrysler's driver slammed on the brakes, swerved several times and eventually pulled off the road. The officer spoke with the driver, later identified as Courtney Perez of Mahanoy City, and noted a strong odor of alcohol coming from the car. There were two passengers in the back seat. When asked about the alcohol, Perez said her passengers had been drinking, but as the designated driver, she hadn't had any alcohol. She then changed that to possibly having one or two drinks. She was given, and failed, field sobriety tests. As the officer was arresting her for driving under the influence, a passenger exited the car, begging him to spare her friend. She was told to get back in the car and the officer would speak with her after he placed her friend in the police cruiser.Minutes later he turned to speak with the other woman, Alyssa Emmert of Ringtown, and saw her squatting along side the car, urinating in public. She then told him she was sorry, that she "just had to go."Perez was cited for DUI. Emmert was cited for public drunkenness, lewdness and disorderly conduct.
