Jim Thorpe Borough officials are looking at a rate increase in order to rebuild the two water mains along Broadway and North Street.

The mains are roughly 100 years old and contain various size piping (none of which are large enough for today's needs), and are made of lead. The lines are in constant need of repair due to their deteriorating condition.Estimated cost of replacement is $4.6 million.Officials have searched for grant money to help with the expense, but have been told the water rates are not high enough to secure grant funding.
