Penn Forest discusses Game Commission shed

Penn Forest Township supervisors Monday discussed the purposed cover shed which the Pennsylvania Game Commission is planning on constructing at State Games Lands 141 off Behren's Road.

Michael Brennen provided the board with photos of similar facilities managed by the game commission."As you can see by the photos there is lots of rusted metal and old tires lying around, a breeding ground for mosquitoes," Brennan said. "This is to be the northeast region's hub for heavy equipment, which means a lot of big equipment running up and down Behrens and Church roads. There are homes, a church and school buses all accessing the same roads.""We want you to deny the permits," Brennen said."The requests for permits just came to my attention," Nanovic said. "But we received a letter from the game commission basically notifying us that they are not subject to our local township regulations.""I am not certain that this type of building would fall within our regulations, but I suggested to our engineers that they attempt to meet with the game commission and request that they comply anyway," Nanovic said. "I am not sure that I agree with the game commission's assessment of the situation, but I do believe that it would be an uphill legal battle."On a much more pleasant note, the township has agreed to permit the Penn Kidder Library to hold its annual Easter egg hunt at the new Route 903 park.According to library Director Barbara Franzosa, on March 21, children 11 and under from Kidder and Penn Forest Townships are invited to come to the park at 1 p.m., when 5,000 eggs will be dropped by helicopter. The rain date for the hunt is March 28.Chairman Warren Reiner said the egg hunt will take place on a part of the park that was not seeded during construction and therefore will not be harmed by the event.
