Local student named junior fellow

Erica Gallis of Orwigsburg, a student at Johns Hopkins University, has joined 35 other college students from around the country to participate in the 2015 Junior Fellows Summer Intern Program at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

The interns were selected from a pool of nearly 800 applicants by a panel of library curators and specialists.During the 10-week paid internship, which runs through Aug. 7, the Junior Fellows are exposed to a broad spectrum of library work: copyright, preservation, reference, access standards, information management and digital initiatives.Their projects have been designed to increase access to the library's collections and raise awareness of the library's digital-preservation programs among members of Congress and researchers including scholars, students, teachers and the general public. In the past, Junior Fellows have identified in the course of their work hundreds of historical, literary, artistic, cinematic and musical gems representing the library's cultural, creative and intellectual assets.
