HARVEYS LAKE, Pa. (AP) - A motorist who allegedly struck and killed a woman jogging at northeastern Pennsylvania's Harveys Lake had been charged with driving under the influence in at least five prior cases.
The Citizens Voice of Wilkes-Barre reported Thursday (http://bit.ly/1JNb6zt ) that Michael Scavone's DUI cases included a 1997 guilty plea that also involved trying to evade police.
In 2009, Scavone was charged in an alleged cocaine ring case and pleaded guilty to operating a boat while under the influence. Scavone's traffic violations also include three cases of leaving an accident scene.
Police say Scavone struck and killed 31-year-old Paula Jones while she was jogging Sunday. Prosecutors are awaiting the results of Scavone's blood-alcohol content test.
Scavone hasn't been charged and was driving with a valid license. Scavone's lawyer says he's cooperating with authorities.
