FBI probes death threats

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into death threats made to PennEast Pipeline officials.

The company is planning a controversial $1.2 billion, 114-mile natural gas pipeline from Luzerne County to New Jersey."PennEast received letters in April," said spokeswoman Patricia Kornick. "They became credible enough that we thought it would be best to notify the FBI."Kornick said she was "not at liberty" to discuss details of the letters, but said they were sent to "key leaders of PennEast.""We are concerned about the safety of our team members."Kornick acknowledged the proposed pipeline is generating intense opposition from landowners worried about safety and whether their properties would be seized by eminent domain. The current route impacts 31 landowners in Kidder, 61 in Penn Forest, 44 in Towamensing and 16 in Lower Towamensing townships in Carbon County."This is a very passionate issue for people," she said. "But in this case, they went to a different level."Kornick said that for "those opposed there is a system in place to expose those concerns in a rational manner through the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's process."For more information, Penneastpipeline.com or call 844-347-7119.
