Tout will coach Big 33 game

Northern Lehigh football coach Joe Tout has always preached to his players to aim high.

On Friday, Tout showed he practices what he preaches.Tout received one of the top honors a Pennsylvania high School football coach can get when he was named to the coaching staff for the Big 33 game."I'm really excited to be named to the Pennsylvania coaching staff," said Tout. "The game features the best of the best when it comes to players in the state and to be able to coach them is a tremendous honor."I always preach to our players to set high goals and then work hard to achieve them. When it comes to coaching high school football, this is one of the highest honors you can receive because you are selected by your peers."Tout, who will be in charge of the defensive line for the Pennsylvania squad, is part of a six-man staff that will be directed by head coach Pat Monroe of South Allegheny High School. The other assistants are Jeff Cappa of Wissahickon, Tom Dickinson of North Penn, Nick Donato of Scranton Prep and John Ruane Penn Trafford.Although Tout was thrilled to be part of the Pennsylvania contingent that will face Maryland on June 20 at 7 p.m. at Hershey Park Stadium, he gave the credit for his selection to those around him."I've been blessed to have great coaches and great players around me during my nine years as a head coach," said Tout. "I look at this as a validation of the type of program we have at Northern Lehigh. Without the success we have been able to attain on the field, I wouldn't have this opportunity."Tout has a 67-37 career record and his teams have qualified for postseason play in seven of his nine seasons. The Bulldogs have reached three District 11 finals and have captured one D-11 title, one Colonial League title and one Eastern Conerence championship under his guidence.Although the team was just officially released yesterday, Tout said he has known for a while that he would be on the staff. He was also part of a select group of coaches that helped pick the team."I was one of about 30 coaches that went over film of the top players in the state to select the team," said Tout. "There were probably about 400 players nominated and we had to get that down to 34 players."That group of players features four District 11 athletes Saquon Barkley of Whitehall, Jacob Bissell of Parkland, Shane Simpson of Easton, and Louis Csaszar of Liberty."It was amazing to see all the talented players there are across the state," said Tout. "Looking at the film of some of the kids really makes you appreciate the caliber of football that is played in Pennsylvania."
