Bowmanstown woman arrested after traffic stop

A Bowmanstown woman was arrested in Nesquehoning following a traffic stop.

At 2:04 p.m. on Jan. 30 Police Chief Sean Smith, while on patrol, observed a gold Chevrolet Astro van swerve all over the roadway while traveling north on Route 209 toward Nesquehoning. The vehicle was seen crossing the solid double line multiple times and nearly struck a guardrail.Smith conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. The driver was identified as Carol Natale.Natale, 41, said the van handles weird and that was why she crossed over the lines.Smith noticed Natale appeared to be extremely nervous and bouncing back and forth in her seat. Her pupils also appeared to be nearly pinpoints. At that time, he asked for her driver's license, and she responded she did not have it on her. After obtaining her other information, Smith asked the Communications Center to run a check. The check revealed Natale had an active bench warrant from Carbon County Sheriff's Office for failure to appear in court. It was also discovered that her driver's license had been suspended previously. After Smith returned to the vehicle, he asked if he could search it, and Natale agreed. Smith told her she had an active bench warrant for her arrest and that she was going to be taken into custody.Natale stepped out of the vehicle and was handcuffed and placed in Smith's patrol car while he called for Marouchoc's Auto to tow the vehicle.During that time, Natale said the vehicle was not hers and that she had been borrowing it from a friend.A search of the vehicle revealed a number of illegal items under the passenger seat and center console, including a burnt spoon with what appeared to be white resin on it and a clear plastic straw with white resin inside it.Natale was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked, and careless driving.
