Board questions fire center

Lower Towamensing Township wants more detailed information before it supports a proposed fire and emergency services training center in Carbon County.

After some discussion, the township's board of supervisors on Tuesday rebuffed a request from the county asking for a letter of support for the center, which would be located on 10 to 12 acres of land in the emergency complex on the Broad Mountain in Nesquehoning.Supervisors' Chairman Brent Green said at this point in time he believes the proposal is "too vague.""Packerton's the perfect place for it," Green said. "There sits vacant property that could be used."Green said the township's stance could change "if we get a plan showing us any justification.""We're not in support of providing a letter," he said. "We don't want to support it until we have more information."Last week, Bowmanstown Borough Council tabled the request by the Carbon County Commissioners in showing support for the new fire and emergency services training center.
