Summit Hill man facing drug charges after traffic stop

A Carbon County driver is facing charges following a vehicle stop that occurred in July.

Nesquehoning police said they have charged Jonathan Paul O'Gurek, 33, of 45 W. Walter St., Summit Hill, with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, operation of a vehicle without an official certificate of inspection, registration and certificate of title required, and tire equipment and traction surfaces. The charges were filed Sept. 25.On July 25 about 3:16 p.m. Officer Robert Blisard was pulling out the parking lot of the police station when he noticed a vehicle pass him with an expired inspection sticker. Blisard made a vehicle stop near the McDonald's restaurant.Upon stopping the vehicle Blisard noticed the registration plate had expired in April and as he approached the vehicle he noticed the drivers' side front tire was bald and had the cords showing.The driver was identified as O'Gurek. He was told of the bald tires, and other violations, and asked to exit the vehicle. He showed signs of being under the influence and was asked if he had used any drugs recently. At first he said no, but then stated he was a heroin user. O'Gurek admitted using four bags of heroin that day and indicated he had a needle in his front pocket.Blisard removed the needle from the pocket and also located 10 bags of suspected heroin, which O'Gurek confirmed was the drug.He was then transported to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, in Coaldale for a blood test. The test results showed the presence of controlled substances.
