Franklin hosts electronic recycling

Franklin Township supervisors recently hosted an electronic recycling day at the township building.

Brenda Neeb, township secretary, said that at least 45 televisions were recycled during the event, plus lots of computer monitors, computers, printers, radios and microwaves. While the computer components were accepted at no cost, there was a fee for those dropping off televisions and appliances with freon."We never expected so much," said Neeb. "The entire building is filled with stuff."Neeb said that some people were not aware of the cost for dropping off televisions, so the township had to pay the fee for some of them."We don't know what we're going to do about the fee," said Neeb. The recycling event was coordinated by Neeb through Responsible Recycling Service of Kutztown.Dan Kline of RRS brought a truck with a lift and had previously dropped off boxes to fill."I don't think I can get it in one load," said Kline. "There is a lot of stuff here."Assisting Kline with loading the old electronics were Glenn Williams and Larry Williams, township workers, and Rob Cressley, roadmaster and supervisor.
