DUI suspects have preliminary hearings

A number of driving under the influences cases were recently scheduled for preliminary hearings before District Judge Stephen Bayer in his Tamaqua office.

John Dominic Krell, 41, of 68 N. Kennedy Drive, McAdoo, waived hishearing on charges of DUI of alcohol, DUI of a controlled substance, DUI of a combination of drugs and alcohol, speeding and careless driving. The charges were filed by McAdoo patrolman Steven Homanko following a March 9, 2013, incident.Krell was released on his own recognizance.Heather L. Loar, 33, of 137 W. Fell St., Summit Hill, failed to appear for her hearing on charges of DUI (alcohol), DUI (controlled substance), DUI alcohol/ drugs, and disregarding a traffic lane. The charges, filed by Tamaqua patrolman Joseph Krebs, were all bound over for court trial. They were filed after an Aug. 31, 2013, incident.A warrant could be issued for her arrest.Paul Petrulsky, 27, of 217 E. Jackson St., McAdoo, waived his case to county court. He was charged with DUI (alcohol), DUI (metabolite), DUI alcohol/drugs, possession of a controlled substance and careless driving. The charges were filed by Homanko following an Aug. 18, 2013, incident.Petrulsky was released on his own recognizance.Frank Robert Pientko, 59, of 214 W. Sherman St., McAdoo, waived charges of DUI, failure to have working rear lights, and failure to use the required signals for turning movements. The charges stem from a Sept. 28, 2013, incident.Pientko was released on his own recognizance.Darrell R. Startzel, 47, of 201 Grier Ave., Barnesville, will face court trial on charges of simple assault and making a false report incriminating another person filed following an Aug. 16, 2013, incident. Charges of making terroristic threats and defiant trespass were withdrawn by the arresting officer, Rush Township patrolman Bradley Hess.Startzel was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.Scott F. Branz, 31, of 40 E. Grant St., McAdoo, elected to waive his right to a hearing on charges filed by McAdoo Patrolman Robert Minnich following a Jan. 2 incident. The charges include burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, loitering/prowling at night, public drunkenness, and disorderly conduct.Branz remains lodged in the Schuylkill County in lieu of $50,000 bail.
