Northern Lehigh graduation date set June 13

Northern Lehigh High School seniors take note: The long-winding road that has been this school year does have an end in site.

Superintendent Michael Michaels told the school board on Monday that high school graduation is scheduled for Friday, June 13.Also on Monday, Assistant Superintendent Karen Nicholas announced that the district recently received a "very generous" donation from the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute with a the donation of books totaling more than $20,000."This year, they've been exceptionally generous," Nicholas said. "It's very, very much appreciated."The board also heard several presentations; a curriculum update, K-12; data collection, K-12; and schoolwide positive behavior support and discipline with dignity presentation.In other business, the board, on an 8-0 vote, with Director Natalie Green absent:• Approved April 21 (Easter Monday), as a snow makeup day.• Approved to administratively transfer Diana Beltran to the position of acting middle school administrative secretary, at the amount of $30,000 per year, as outlined in the 2013-17 Clerical Salary and Benefit Agreement.She will receive a prorated amount of pay, effective Feb. 10, and will continue until the return of a full-time employee from a medical leave of absence.• Appointed Kimberly Ruland as high school cook's helper, replacing Dima Hanna, who resigned, at a salary of $9 per hour, four hours per day, five days a week, for up to 180 student days per year, plus additional cleaning days as needed, as per the 2013-17 Educational Support Personnel CBA, effective today, with a 60-day probationary period ending May 9.• Acknowledged teacher Lori Middaugh has completed the requirements per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, from Step 7B + 24, to Step 7 M, that would entitle her to a salary increase for the second half of the 2013-14 school year.• Approved substitute teacher Kristin Wessner, Elementary Pre-K-4 and Special Education Pre-K-8, for the 2013-14 school year at the 2013-14 substitute teacher rates as approved on the Supplementary Personnel Salary Schedule, pending verification of missing personnel file items.• Granted permission to Allison Chruscial and Tanya Simms to attend the PA Excellence in eLearning Forum, March 12-14 in Valley Forge with the cost of meals $25, for a total approximate cost of $25, to be funded by the assistant superintendent budget.Registration and overnight accommodations are complimentary.• Granted permission to Karen Nicholas to attend the PA Excellence in eLearning Forum with the cost of meals $25 and mileage $39, for a total approximate cost of $64, to be funded by the assistant superintendent budget.• Granted homebound instruction for a sixth-grade student, for five hoursper week, effective Feb. 18 and continuing for anindefinite amount oftime.• Approved the high school senior field trip to Hershey Park, in Hershey on June 2, to be funded by the Class of 2014.
