Walnutport fire company performs drill

About 10 volunteers of Walnutport's Diamond Fire Company perform pump operations and hand line hose operations as part of their weekly 3.5-hour training drill Wednesday nightin the borough. Lieutenant Mike Lebrun said the firetruck was sucking water out of theborough canal, using "it as a hydrant" rather than using actual borough hydrants, which carry treated water. By keeping the water circulating and pressure in the hoses, Lebrun said, the firefighters, many of them juniors under the age of 18, could practice turning the hoses on and off, better understand hose pressure, and more. "Sometimes we go back to the basics, and it's good for the older guys, too," he said.
