Landmark burns

A Monroe county landmark has been destroyed by an early morning fire. The Dansbury Depot in East Stroudsburg, a former railroad station on Crystal Street that had been renovated into a restaurant, was brought to ruins in a fast moving fire. The sprawling structure was the pride of the community and a tourist attraction. Fire companies from several communities battled the blaze for several hours. The fire was first reported at 2:30 a.m. by a passer-by and when firefighters arrived on scene the structure was fully involved. Heavy smoke covered the night sky with several reports of possibly another fire in the community which turned out to be the smoke from the Depot fire. Those reports came as far away as the East Stroudsburg University stadium and the Pocono Medical Center, both about a half mile away.
