Bill would eliminate automatic union dues

Could legislation be passed that would ultimately eliminate automatic union dues?

Mike Morrill, executive director of Keystone Progress, recently addressed the Palmerton Area Democratic Club on that very issue.Morrill discussed "Issues Facing Pennsylvania in 2014," one of which he said is HB 1507, the Paycheck Protection Bill.The bill has been introduced into the Pennsylvania House, and would eliminate automatic union dues, Morrill said.Also as part of his presentation, Morrill talked about the PA Progressive Summit 2014 Fighting Back, Moving Forward, which will be held in Harrisburg Feb. 28 through March 1.He said there are eight declared Democratic candidates, and shared his impressions of them, as well as challenges of the 2014 Gubernatorial Election.Keystone Progress, which Morrill spearheaded, is based in Harrisburg, and recognized as Pennsylvania's largest online progressive action network, and affiliate of the USAction and ProgressNow networks.Members of the Palmerton Area Democratic Club were asked to bring canned goods to the meeting to donate to the Food Bank run by the Community Action Council of Palmerton Area Churches.The next meeting of the club will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 11. The guest speaker will be Barb Green, president, Blue Mountain Resort, who will discuss the Summit Splash Water Park.Meetings are at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month, September to May, at the Fireline Hotel, Bowmanstown.
