No. Lehigh matmen cruise past Palmerton

Knowing his team would collect four forfeit wins for 24 points to end the match, Northern Lehigh head coach Steve Hluschak Jr. had all eyes on a couple of tough individual bouts when it visited Palmerton for a Colonial League meeting on Monday night.

The Bulldogs actually won the first five bouts and cruised to a 56-12 victory.Austin Hemingway and Jakob Connell won by falls, Matt Schmall and Conrad Young by major decisions and Ryan Farber by decision to put the Bulldogs in front 23-0.Zack Christman's 3-1 decision over Nate Farber broke the streak and put Palmerton on the scoreboard."We were looking for some of those better matches tonight like Ryan Farber and Andrew Ringler along with Nate Farber and Zach Christman," Hluschak said. "Those are the kind of things you are looking for early in the year here. Obviously that will propel us to the end of the year wrestling those type of matches. You get to districts, regionals and states, which all wrestlers strive to do."All of those matches are going to be tough. You have to be able to wrestler four or five of those in a day, so for us to get a couple of those matches today was very beneficial to us. Hopefully we continue to wrestle well as a team. Any time you can get a win with the lineup we had out there tonight we're happy."The Bulldogs are a little banged up right now missing four starters, while Palmerton has Zach Graver sidelined. At 145, Ryan Farber handed the Bombers' Ringler his first loss with a 5-0 decision. Farmer scored a first period takedown and then both want toe-to-toe into the final period before Farber added an escape and takedown.IN another match featuring two of the best 170 pounders in The Times News area, Christman fell behind when Nate Farber escaped in the second period. Christmas tied it when he was awarded a point on a locked hands call, then reversed Farber in the final period for the win.Jarred Mooney followed with a 2:53 fall and John Iles scored a 4-2 decision to end the Bombers scoring."That was a nice win for Zach, especially coming off an injury and not being able to work out as much as he wanted to," said Palmerton head coach Justin Petersen. "His conditioning probably wasn't where he wanted it. So to battle like that and get the 'W' was big against a very quality opponent."Mooney had a nice win and John (Iles), we've been asking him to bump up a lot. When he wrestles at 195 he's giving up 10 pounds. He's doing a great job at 220. We give him a game plan to work on and he works on it to a T."With three guys in the lineup who are first year wrestlers, Hluschak was happy to only give up 12 points."We're hopefully building some depth with these guys wrestling now and hopefully we'll get all of our starters back in a week or two."NO.
