Segan sets NW scoring mark

On the opening day for a number of fall sports, several TIMES NEWS area teams had strong starts to their respective seasons.

The Northwestern boys and girls soccer teams picked up wins, as Sarah Segan set the all-time record for goals scored.The Lehighton boys soccer and volleyball teams also opened with victories, as did the Pleasant Valley boys soccer, girls soccer and field hockey teams. The Northern Lehigh girls soccer team also opened with an impressive win.VOLLEYBALLPM East-LehightonLehighton grabbed a convincing 25-9, 25-16, 25-13 season-opening victory over Pocono Mountain East in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.Katr Higgins led the Lady Indians with four digs to go along with two aces and two kills. Andrea Shafer paced Lehighton with four aces, while Alyssa Jordan chipped in two kills and three aces.Lehighton also won the JV match, 25-12, 28-26.BOYS SOCCERPM West-Pleasant ValleyPleasant Valley grabbed a narrow 2-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pocono Mountain West.Noah Fulcomer and Mike Baylo scored for the Bears, while Gabe Connell and Devon Woltal had the assists.Brad Brickman made four saves in the win.Dieruff-LehightonLehighton got a crucial second half goal to knock off Dieruff 2-1 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference opener for both teams.Joe Marks opened the scoring for the Indians early in the first half for a 1-0 lead.
