A Carbon County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence and other counts after he fled the scene following a one-vehicle crash in Lehigh County.

State police at Fogelsville said the incident occurred at 1:50 a.m. on Saturday along Madison Street in Lynn Township. Troopers said Clifford J. Diefenderfer, 38, of Lehighton, was driving a 1993 Dodge and negotiating a right curve when he lost control. The vehicle traveled about 160 feet across a yard/grass area before striking a utility pole.After the crash, Diefenderfer fled the scene but was later apprehended. He showed signs of intoxication, troopers said, and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for treatment of injuries.The DUI charge and other motor vehicle code violations are pending completion of the investigation.
