Police investigate student stabbing

Jim Thorpe police are investigating an alleged stabbing that occurred in Memorial Park two weeks ago.

According to Police Chief Joseph Schatz, the incident happened on Oct. 11, but police only learned about it on Oct. 16 after hearing talk on the street and through the Jim Thorpe Area School District."The district works well with us," he said. "They are proactive with anything they hear (that puts students in harms way)."Schatz said the people involved included a middle school student and high school student, but could not say which one was the victim and which was the aggressor due to the ongoing investigation.Police are currently interviewing the parties to learn what happened. Charges are pending upon the completion of the investigation.Schatz added that once police learned that the incident happened in Memorial Park, a curfew was instituted for the park and police are not allowing students to gather in the picnic and pavilion areas. The curfew begins at dusk."We want to be proactive because it is a nice park and don't want that type of trouble in there," he said.If anyone has any information regarding the incident, contact Jim Thorpe police at 570-325-4995.
