Cocaine plea gets jail sentence

A Carbon County woman admitted assaulting a state trooper, while a drug dealer was sentenced to a county prison term.

They were two of six defendants to enter guilty pleas on Tuesday in Carbon County court before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.Franklin incidentChristy N. Hartman, 25, of Lehighton, pleaded guilty to one count each of simple assault, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.She was arrested for an incident on Aug. 29 along Court St., in Franklin Township.State police at Lehighton were in the area looking for a wanted person and also investigating a report of drug activity. A vehicle was observed circling the area several times.Troopers made a vehicle stop. The driver was found to be under the influence. Hartman was a passenger in the vehicle and ordered to exit the car. She got out of the car and then began to cause a disturbance. Found in the vehicle was heroin.She continued to cause a disturbance despite warnings from the officers. She struggled with troopers when they attempted to place her in the back of a patrol vehicle. She then kicked Cpl. Shaun Noonan. While in the back of the cruiser she kicked a window out.Hartman told Nanovic she has high on drugs at the time of the incident and has since sought help for her drug problem. In a plea bargain a charge of aggravated assault was dropped.On the assault count she was sentenced to time served (six days in jail) to 18 months. On the resisting charge she was placed on probation for a year consecutive to the assault charge. She was placed on probation for a year on the possession count concurrent.She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, and zero tolerance imposed on D&A use.Jim Thorpe incidentAmaurys G. Deleon, 29, of Allentown, was sentenced to serve 10 to one day less 24 months in the county prison after pleading guilty to one count each of unlawful use of a communication device (a felony three), and possession of drug paraphernalia. A count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance was dropped in a plea bargain.Deleon was arrested by Jim Thorpe police on Aug. 12 after selling cocaine to a confidential informant in the area of 501 North St. The CI called Deleon's cell phone to set up the sale.The jail term was imposed on the felony count which will be followed by one year of probation. On the possession count Nanovic imposed a one year probation period concurrent.Deleon was also ordered to get a D&A evaluation, supply a DNA sample, zero tolerance on D&A use, and must get his General Education Diploma.Other pleasOther defendants who entered guilty pleas included:Chris M. Snyder, 40, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count each of simple assault and harassment, as a summary offense.He was arrested for an incident on March 31 at 722 Franklin Ave.Palmerton police responded to the residence to a report of a domestic dispute. On scene the woman told officers Snyder had assaulted her. Police observed bruises on her arms. She required medical treatment. In a plea agreement, a charge of aggravated assault was dropped.Nanovic placed Snyder on probation for a year on the assault count and ordered he get a D&A evaluation, and attend and complete anger management counseling. He was also ordered to make total restitution of $1,385.35.Nanovic ruled the harassment charge merges with the assault count for sentencing purposes.Stephen T. Meleschuk, 54, of Whitehall, pleaded to one count each of persistent disorderly conduct, and a summary offense of public drunkenness.Meleschuk was arrested for an incident on June 15, at 871 Delaware Avenue. Police responded to the scene to a reported domestic dispute. On scene they found Meleschuk in a intoxicated state. Police got things calmed down and left. They were called back an hour later.When they arrived Meleschuk fled into nearby woods but was later located.Nanovic placed him on probation for a year on the conduct charge and ordered he get a D&A evaluation, and zero tolerance imposed on D&A use.On the summary count he was fined $300.Michael W. Tyson, 34, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count each of unauthorized use of an automobile and bad checks.He was arrested on the unauthorized use charge by Lehighton police on March 7, 2009. He rented a car from Blocker Brothers Body Shop and did not return it when scheduled. He was contacted by the firm to return the car and promised to bring it back, but failed to in a timely manner.The bad check charge stems from an incident on Dec. 29, 2008, when he made a purchase at MS Jewelry Store in Palmerton with a check which was later turned for insufficient funds.Nanovic deferred sentencing to a later date.Robert C. Myers, 30, of Northfield, N.J., pleaded to one count of theft and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on Feb. 21 by state police at Lehighton for an incident at the Blue Mountain Ski Resort in Lower Towamensing Township. He took a snowboard. When confronted by troopers and arrested they found items of drug paraphernalia on his person.Nanovic deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs, which average close to $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
