Nesquehoning UVO plans Memorial Day services

The Nesquehoning UVO, which consists of Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008, American Legion Post 172, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, will conduct services at all the cemeteries and Memorials this weekend.

On Sunday, May 26 members will depart the VFW at noon. Services will be held at the following locations: Knauf Memorial on the Broad Mountain; St. John the Baptist Orthodox cemetery; St. Cyril and Methodius cemetery; St. John's Lutheran Cemetery and St. Mary's Cemetery, all at the east end of the borough.They will then move to New Columbus where services will be held simultaneously for St. Theresa's Grotto and the Cerchario Monument, followed by Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery. They will then travel to Hauto for services at the Hauto monument on Route 54.At each stop, a prayer will be offered, a salute by the firing squad and conclude with Taps.On Monday, May 27, the parade will form by the Nesquehoning Recreation Center at 8 a.m. and pull out promptly at 8:30. They will then stop at the VFW Monument at the intersection of Routes 209 and 54, where a wreath will be placed by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and services will then be held. The next stop will be at the Lions Club Memorial and St. Patrick's Cemetery, where a prayer, salute and Taps will be offered. The parade will then proceed to the VFW Post Home on East Center Street, across from the remaining cemeteries where the main services will be held.
