New traffic light working in Mahoning

The newly installed traffic signal at the New Mahoning intersection in Mahoning Township (Route 443 and Mill Road) began operating yesterday.

Chief of Police Ken Barnes said, "I have concerns that for the amount of years there has only been the blinking light at the intersection we may experience a temporary increase in traffic accidents, because many motorists are accustomed to the blinking light and not the new signal."Therefore, I am asking motorists to PLEASE be careful and keep in mind that this light is now in operation."We are going to give a 30 day grace period for enforcement of violations. Unless otherwise warranted verbal and written warnings will be given to violators. Beginning January 16, 2010 the 30 day grace warning period will end."
