Tom Coyne, a resident of The Village at Palmerton, celebrated his 88th birthday on May 23.

Tom comes from Binghamton, N.Y., where he had a career as a floral designer and event planner. He worked primarily for MacLeannans Flowers Inc., a very large design house. He did corporate events for IBM and GE, as well as weddings and bar mitzvahs.

"It was such a rewarding life to help people style their parties and affairs with flowers from all around the globe," he said.

He traveled extensively for business, meeting other floral professionals in many parts of Europe. Paris, France and London, England were his favorite places.

He is a career bachelor, and business trips often took him away from home for weeks at a time.

"I never wanted to tie anyone down with my job, and I enjoyed meeting different people everywhere I visited, so I really never had time to commit to a family life. I am happy to say I have no regrets, which is rare for many people."

He enjoys events at The Village and listening to music. His niece Linda lives in Jim Thorpe and visits often.
