Afternoon and evening commuters should be careful today as they could encounter snow-covered roads.

The National Weather Service says we will experience snow late this afternoon and tonight.

Only one to three inches are in the forecast, but the accumulation will begin immediately because of three days of bitter cold temperatures.

The snow is expected to start after 3 p.m.

Most areas will receive less than two inches of snow, says the NWS, but there could be a few isolated areas where up to three inches could cover the terrain.

The snow should end by 3 a.m.

While Saturday has a slight chance of snow showers forecast, Sunday will be sunny but cold.

Next week could create some problems as sleet and freezing rain are possibilities for Monday and Tuesday.

By Wednesday, temperatures should warm up to the 40s.
