A Lehigh County driver is facing charges, including driving under the influence (DUI), following an incident that occurred about 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, along SR222 (Hamilton Boulevard), in Lower Macungie Township.
State police at Fogelsville said Kalman W. Konya, 27, of Breinigsville, was driving a 1999 Dodge Stratus when he fell asleep. The vehicle swerved left and went onto the right side shoulder. The car then traveled about 120 feet before the right rear trunk area struck a utility pole. After impact with the pole the car rotated about 90 degrees and came to rest in a parking lot at 6776 Hamilton Blvd.
Konya fled the scene, troopers said. Troopers went to his residence and made contact with him. He showed signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest for DUI. He is also facing a charge of driving on roadways laned for traffic and hit and run.
