Coaldale man gets jail time after pleading DUI count

A Coaldale man was among 10 who entered guilty pleas to criminal charges in Schuylkill County court and were sentenced by Judge James P. Goodman.

Harold Joseph Tonkin, 43, of 225 Ruddle St., Coaldale, pleaded to driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol, and was sentenced to serve 30 days in the county prison followed by four years and 11 months in the Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP) with the first 90 days under house arrest with electronic monitoring and pay a $12 daily fee, followed by seven months in strict probation and remaining four years under regular probation.He was also fined $1,500, and ordered to pay $300 to Substance Abuse Education (SAE) fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center (SMC)-South, perform 20 hours community service, attend alcohol highway safe driving school, complete intensive outpatient substance abuse counseling, driver's license suspended 18 months and when restored for 12 months must install an ignition interlock on steering wheel of his vehicle which monitors if driver has consumed alcohol.On a summary charge of failing to keep to the right side of the road was fined $25 plus $50 costs. Tonkin was cited by Coaldale Patrolman Scott Cramer, last May 5.Cart John Roman, Orwigsburg, two counts of DUI of alcohol, placed in the IPP for 12 months, fined $2,000, pay $600 to SAE fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, $120 to SMC-South, attend safety school, complete outpatient substance abuse treatment, perform 20 hours of community service, and driver's license suspended 12 months.On a charge of being involved in an accident on SR61 in North Manheim Township last Sept. 12 was fined $300; and for failing to drive on roadway laned for traffic was fined $25 plus $100 costs. Roman was cited by Cpl. Kevin J. Brennan, state trooper, on SR61 and by Trooper Matthew C. Barrett on Tumbling Run Road in Blythe Township.Kyle Jeffrey Grube, 20, Orwigsburg, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, was sentenced to serve three to 23 months in the county prison with credit for serving 28 days, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to Criminal Justice Enhancement Account (CJEA) fund, and perform 10 hours community service. Grube was cited by Schuylkill County Drug Task Force at his home a 1357 Center Turnpike.Brett V. Elliott, 28, Pottsville, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, sentenced to serve five to 23 months on the county prison, pay a fine of $200, pay $300 to SAE fund, $50 to CJEA fund, and he can participate in the work session program. Elliott was cited by Schuylkill County Drug Task Force last May 22.He also pleaded guilty to DUI of drugs and was given a concurrent sentence of 72 hours to six months, fined $1,000, make restitution of $460 to SCM-South, $428 to Bethlehem Regional Lab, and perform 10 hours community service. Elliott was cited for DUI by Schuylkill Haven Patrolman David T. George, last July 8.Huge restitutionMarianne Elizabeth Blankenhorn, 47, Schuylkill Haven, theft, sentenced to serve one to two years in a state correctional facility, pay $50 to CJEA fund, and make restitution of $229,610.31 to Weiner Iron and Metal Corporation, Pottsville.She was cited by Trooper Thomas J. Robin and charged with creating fictitious weight slips totaling more than $229,000. She was employed as a clerk at the scrap yards to pay customers bringing in scrap metal.Stephen Barrett, 41, Mahanoy City, pleaded guilty to charges of simple assault and disorderly conduct, but his sentence was deferred to Thursday, May 16, and the court ordered a pre-sentence investigative (PSI) report prepared by the adult probation office. He was cited by Tamaqua Patrolman Anthony Stanell, and charged with assaulting Brian Correll at the Hang Loose Bar last June 26.David Alan Fleming, 44, Orwigsburg, simple assault on his son, placed on probation 23 months and pay $50 to CJEA fund. He was cited by Patrolman Brandon K. Bayer.Natosha Delores Bullock, 28, Philadelphia, possession of a controlled substance and giving a false identification to police was placed on probation 23 months and given credit for serving 57 days in the county prison, pay $100 to SAE fund, and $50 to CJEA fund. On a charge of driving while license suspended was fined $200 plus $50 costs. Bullock was cited by Pottsville Patrolman Michael P. Stank.Tykeem Sharrod Brown, 21, Pottsville, possession of a small amount of marijuana, placed on probation 30 days, pay $100 to SAE fund, and $50 to CJEA fund. He was cited by Pottsville Patrolman Brian J. Reno, last Nov. 2.On a second charge of possession of a controlled substance he received a concurrent 30 day sentence, pay $100 to SAE fund, and $50 to CJEA fund. He was cited by Pottsville Patrolman Brian V. Kotzmoyer, last Feb. 1.Each defendant sentenced must also pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
