One person was injured following a one-vehicle crash in Upper Macungie Township.

The crash occurred on Sept. 4, at 5:22 p.m., on Interstate 78 westbound, near mile marker 51.5.

According to State Police at Fogelsville, the accident happened as a result of a 2009 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Sharon L. Gallagher, 50, of New Tripoli, driving west on I-78 in the left lane of travel. The roadway was wet from heavy rainfall occurring at the time of the incident. Gallagher failed to drive her vehicle at a safe speed for the weather conditions that existed. She then lost control of the vehicle and spun clockwise across all westbound travel lanes of I-78.

The driver side of the Impala impacted a concrete barrier on the north side of the roadway. After the initial point of impact, the impala bounced off the barrier and spun counter clockwise, coming to its final resting position facing west on the right shoulder of I-78.

As a result of the impact, the Impala sustained heavy damage to the right side of the vehicle and was towed from the scene by Faust Towing. Gallagher sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Macungie EMS. The passenger in her vehicle, Chad D. Gallagher, 14, was not injured.
