Teen workers: Ebb and flow

The numbers of teens in the 16-19 year age group has been climbing.

According to the Pennsylvania Center for Workforce Information & Analysis, the teen labor force has grown by an average of 28 percent. But the increase has not been steady: Prior to the recession's start in December 2007, the teen labor force had increased an average of 34 percent. But since then, teenagers have not entered the labor force as much as pre-recession.On the other hand, the post-recession unemployment rate increase for teenagers was not as great as the pre-recession rate. That's because fewer teens are entering the labor force.
