Tamaqua sidewalks must be snow-free

Tamaqua property owners must maintain a three-foot-wide path on their sidewalks that is clear of all snow and ice. Snow and ice must be removed from sidewalks within 24 hours after a snowstorm ends. Property owners who fail to clean their sidewalks may be subject to a $25 fine for the first offense, $50 for the second offense and higher fines for subsequent offenses. Residents are also reminded not to throw snow, ice or other materials onto the streets. Traffic compacts snow into ice and causes a traffic hazard. Snow should not be piled at intersections, near fire hydrants or on top of storm drains. Residents are encouraged to clear snow from around fire hydrants and storm drains. Residents may also be fined for throwing or piling snow onto the streets. Any questions may be directed to the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 East Broad Street, Tamaqua during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or call 570-668-3444 or 570-668-0300.
