This year the DARE program graduated 132 fifth grade students under the direction of Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith at the Nesquehoning Elementary School.
The program was sponsored by various people and organizations. Some of the sponsors were Panther Creek Cogeneration Plant (the main contributor), Kovatch Corporation, Atty. Michael Greek, the Nesquehoning VFW, the Nesquehoning Lions Club, and Mayor Tony Walck.
Prizes included two Apple I Pods, two XBox 360, two BMS Freestyle Bikes, two I Pod Shuffles, and two $25 gift cards from Walmart. Students receiving the prizes had the top ten best essay writing papers. The top winner wrote on his personal experiences in his family with drugs which was very heart warming.
Chief Smith and Principal Mary Figura urged the children to lead a good life and stay away from bad influences.
After the graduation the students met in the cafeteria being treated to pizza and ice tea.
