Around 9 a.m. this morning, a tractor trailer struck a crosswalk sign and switch at the Five Points intersection in Tamaqua. The sign, now located directly next to the ramp leading into the M & T Bank, was moved further away from the curb after being destroyed by turning trucks. Black tire tracks could be seen as tractor trailers routinely drive 6 feet onto the sidewalk to make the turn from SR309 north onto PA209 east. Since the end of the Streetscape project, signs are hit once a week, on average.
