Pleasant Valley caps perfect MVC season

Pleasant Valley capped a perfect volleyball season in the Mountain Valley Conference by sweeping Stroudsburg on Thursday.

In other volleyball action, Panther Valley and Lehighton posted wins.The Tamaqua boys soccer team also earned a victory.GIRLS VOLLEYBALLJim Thorpe-Panther ValleyPanther Valley swept Jim Thorpe in Schuylkill League action, 25-14, 25-16, 25-16.Amy Yusella had nine kills, 12 service points and three aces for the Panthers while Chrissy Micholik added seven kills, 14 assists and seven service points.PV's Steph Kachelries contributed seven kills, four service points and three aces; Deannan Focht finished with three kills, seven service points and four digs; Jacinda Ruzicka chipped in with three kills, seven service points and an ace; and Krista Paul added four digs, seven service points and three aces.For the Olympians, Makenzie Walck had four kills and four blocks while Shannon Green had three kills and five blocks. Riley Carroll also added eight assists.In the JV match, Panther Valley won 25-23, 25-23.Shenandoah-WeatherlySarah Dolinsky had 14 kills, 31 digs and three assists for Weatherly, but the Wreckers fell to Shenandoah Valley in Schuylkill League play 25-22, 25-23, 18-25, 26-24.Weatherly's Jess Adamczyk also finished with eight kills, 16 digs and seven blocks while teammate Alicia Panzarella added five kills, 32 digs and four assists. Alyssa Miller chipped in with four kills, 32 digs and three aces.The Wreckers finished with an overall record of 6-15, including a 4-9 mark in the league.Saucon Valley-LehightonLehighton downed Saucon Valley in non-league action, 27-25, 25-15, 25-11.Krista Rehrig had 21 assists, three kills and seven digs for the Indians, while teammates Natalie Zurn had 24 digs and Anne Zurn had nine digs, four kills and three aces.Lehighton also won the JV contest, 25-15, 25-21.Stroudsburg-Pleasant Vy.Pleasant Valley completed an undefeated season in the Mountain Valley Conference by sweeping Stroudsburg on Senior Night, 25-9, 25-17, 25-18.Breanna Joseph had 11 kills and five blocks for the Bears (12-0 in the MVC). PV's Mackenzie Dorney had nine digs and four kills, Steph Scmitt had nine assists and Kiersten Griesback compiled 15 assists.For the Mounties, Sarah Fillman had 11 kills.North Schuylkill-TamaquaNorth Schuylkill cruised past Tamaqua in Schuylkill League action, 25-15, 25-6, 25-12.The Raiders' Sarah Paluck had eight kills and five digs, while teammate Rylee Devlin had five service points and four kills.The Spartans also won the JV contest, 2-0.BOYS SOCCERTamaqua-PalmertonTamaqua defeated Palmerton in non-league soccer action, 2-1.Jake Fegley and Josh Delp scored first-half goals for the Blue Raiders. Justin Delp and Alan Duffy-Guy added assists for the winners.For Palmerton, Dylan Furry scored unassisted in the first half.Both teams had 10 shots on goal. Tamaqua's Tyler Cimino stopped seven and Codi Sigley stopped five for the Bombers.MIDDLE SCHOOLFOOTBALLLehighton-ES SouthWyatt Clements rushed for over 200 yards and three touchdowns to lead Lehighton to a 42-0 victory over East Stroudsburg.Tyler Cann threw TD passes to Dustin Koons and Eric Skrimkofsky and also ran for two-point conversion.Jahmir Spencer rushed for a touchdown and Conner Frey added a conversion to round out the scoring.Lehighton-StroudsburgThe Lehighton defense posted its third shutout in a row by blanking Stroudsburg, 20-0.Wyatt Clements returned a fumble for a touchdown and Tegan Durashin had an interception to highlight the defensive effort for the Indians, who forced five turnovers in the game.Clements also rushed for a touchdown and added a conversion. For the third game in a row, the combination of Tyler Cann to Dustin Koons produced a touchdown.Lehighton is now 6-0 on the season.
