If you drive ...

Over the past few weeks, sets of cascading plastic road signs are appearing on sides of major roads and highways. Geared toward pointing out the dangers of cell phone usage while driving, the green and white signs are easy to read and placed far enough apart to get the message across. According to the drivesafepa.org website, currently, there are no statewide laws in Pennsylvania against cell phone or texting usage while driving, although some local ordinances are starting to crack down. According to handsfreeinfo.com, distracted driving continues as a national hot-button issue. The site adds that as of fall 2011, 34 states have banned text messaging while driving, the latest being Nevada, Maine, Indiana and North Dakota. These signs are located on SR209 in Middleport and state, "If you drive and text, your number may be up next!"
