Clogged drains cause Hometown flooding

Hometown Fire Chief Tom Messerschmidt, left, and firefighters George Gerhard and Jim Stewart prepare to unblock clogged drains along SR309 in Hometown Monday evening. Heavy rains sent a swift, deep cascade of water down Grove Street and Meadow Avenue, flooding two storm drains and basements of nearby buildings. Local residents say the situation is a recurring problem as water in the vicinity of Rush Elementary School a few blocks away finds its way to the drains, which quickly clog.
