James and Kathryn Carnish of Tamaqua have announced the engagement of their daughter, Erin Carnish, to Sean Bernard, son of William and Christine Bernard of Oaklyn, N.J.

The bride-to-be is a 2003 graduate of Marian Catholic High School, Hometown. In 2007 she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania; and in 2011, she graduated from the Jefferson Medical College, as a medical doctor.She will begin her internal medicine residency at the Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, in June 2011.The prospective bridegroom is a 2004 graduate of Haddon Township High School and a 2009 graduate of Rutgers University.He is currently working toward a master's degree in management at Stevens Institute of Technology.He is employed by Lockheed Martin as a systems analyst.The couple is planning an Oct. 15, 2011 wedding.
