Singing holiday cheer

Pleasant Valley Elementary School second graders held a holiday "Sing-along" on the last day of school before the Winter Recess. Their special guests were members of the Hillcrest Retirement Community of Tannersville.

PVE music teacher, Mrs. Millard's grandmother is a resident of Hillcrest and for the last three years invited members of Hillcrest to the delightful Sing-along arranged by Millard and the other three music teachers, Jill Kersten, Amy Boligitz and Carla Karpanski. The children sang songs like "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," "O Tannenbaum" in English and in a resounding German rendition. Other songs included "My Dreidel," a Jamaican tune of "Christmas A Come" and "Jingle Bells."The second grade classes that participated were of Mrs. Lesoine, Mrs. Wolf, Mrs. Hauze, Mrs. Shibley, Mrs. Bumbulsky and Mrs. Bartoli."Our residents love seeing the little kids and getting out. Anytime they can have contact with children, they love it," said Tim Slutter, the activities director of Hillcrest."In addition to the Sing-along, the students made cards for each of the visitors," said Todd Van Nortwick, PVE's assistant principal. After the Sing-along, as the students filed by the Hillcrest residents and handed them their homemade cards, it was hard to tell who wore the biggest smiles.
