Prothonotary's report

A total of 353 cases were started in November in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:

Assessment appeals, 24; Civil actions, 59; custody complaints, 23; district justice appeals, 11; divorce complaints, 25; ejectment complaints, 3; license appeals, 2; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 26; name change petitions, 2; protection from abuse petitions, 18; tax sales, 2; court appointment, 1; judgments,147; zoning appeal, 1; and stipulations/waivers of liens, 9. The office staff also received and processed 51 applications for U.S. Passports.

Behrens' financial report shows $38,013.53 was generated last month as follows: prothonotary's fees, $31,404.70; interest income, $28.36; PFA Surcharge, courts, $25; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff, $25; custody fees, $1,100; and data processing fees, $5,430.47.

The prothonotary also remitted $5,189.36 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $89.60 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,470 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
