Calvary Episcopal Church blesses pets

Calvary Episcopal Church, Tamaqua, held a pet blessing service in addition to its regular service on Sunday, Oct. 4. The Pet Blessing Service lasted about an hour and was held in the downstairs of the church in the Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center. The Rev. Rob Gildersleeve held the service, in addition to focusing on St Francis of Assisi. Many pets and owners were present for the pet blessing service. The church has done this service since 2007. Pets brought to the services ranged from dogs, cats, gerbils, fish, and even lizards. Many of the pet owners stated their appreciation of the church's recognition of their love for their pets. Here, Rev. Gildersleeve provides his blessing to Donna Thomas's dog, "Jacob Marley".
